Scores of people in Tral town Tuesday protested at the sub-district hospital Tral against alleged medical negligence by a doctor.

On Monday afternoon a two-year-old child named Hawra Batool daughter of Raja Nasir Ali, a resident of Panner village, was brought to the hospital at about 12:45 pm in an unconscious state.

A protester, Ali Muhammad, accused a doctor of the Paediatric wing of keeping the child’s parents waiting outside the ward for hours and then refusing to treat the child.

“His parents grew desperate and took him to Srinagar when he was in a bad state,” Ali Muhammad said. On Tuesday, the protesters demonstrated inside the hospital premises and demanded action against the Paediatrician.

Tral block medical officer Dr Gobinder Singh Mehta said the matter will be looked into.

“I assure you that such a situation will not arise in future,” Dr Mehta said.
